Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) is a promising technique for producing large, customized metal parts with complex geometries. However, its industrial adoption remains limited due to challenges like residual stresses and uncontrolled microstructures, which affect part quality and performance. This project, AM4Micro, aims to address these challenges by controlling microstructure formation to achieve optimal mechanical performance. Building on our recent research breakthroughs, the project will develop a computational method that integrates both part design and printing sequence planning to tailor material microstructures. The computational method will be experimentally validated through industrial collaboration, ensuring practical relevance and scalability. Ultimately, AM4Micro seeks to advance WAAM as a reliable and sustainable manufacturing technology for key sectors, including aerospace, maritime, and construction.
