The route Regenerative Medicine proposes two projects, aiming to support research that addresses the societal challenges that we will inevitably face when developing and implementing new techniques like cell and gene therapies.
The first project (SCORE-study) will address the ethical and economical implications of (commercial) organoid use by focusing on their use in ex-vivo trials. This research will include two case studies, together representing challenges experienced in the broader organoid field. By including perspectives from experts, patients and lay people the researchers aim to connect science with society.
The second project aims to address the legal implications of body material use. In this small project the focus will be on informed consent and ownership, with the aim to propose a fitting legal framework. The researchers will involve all types of experts and societal stakeholders to make the framework the best possible fit for all involved. This research will be a stepping stone for further legal research on regenerative medicine, also in a European and international context.
With these small projects we hope to make a start at preparing society for the impact this new field of medicine will inevitably have.
