Conflicts in context: neighborhoods, countries, and war sides

The three proposed projects combine current social and scientific problems in innovative proposals. Project 1 is an in-depth study of the young generations in specific (‘power’) neighbourhoods of the Hague and their perspectives on existing conflicts as well as their resolution is assessed. In project 2 data from the world value study are used and it is aimed at an explanation for the increased willingness to use weapons when fighting for a country among during the last years. Project 3 employs historical data and studies how media shape the perception of war and combines this with in-depth interviews from persons who are potential, actual, and returning foreign fighters.
All the projects are theoretically novel and interesting, methodologically sound, socially relevant, and they are at the same time innovative in the choice of their research problems and the design. The envisaged output is ambitious, ranging from publications in top journals to engagement with stakeholders, symposia and media presence.
