This project aims to develop foundations for systematically integrating fairness in the development of sustainable transportation policies. This is highly relevant given ongoing discussions about sustainable policies at national, regional and local levels in the both person and freight transportation.
The project aims to address the above knowledge gap by the following aims:
1. To develop an ethical framework for developing, analyzing and discussing the fairness of sustainable mobility policies, with reference to established ethical theories.
2. To develop empirical evidence of the implications of sustainable mobility policies for groups with different travel and accessibility contexts.
3. To develop insight into interactions and feedback loops (e.g. between person and freight transportation) in the transportation system, and their impact on fairness.
4. To develop fair and effective sustainable transportation plans in a process of co-creation with relevant stakeholders (including citizens) and provide a learning space for stakeholders.
To achieve these objectives, the project will synthesize available literature on transport poverty/justice and ethics, about sustainable travel and logistics, and about systemic interactions in the transport system to develop new theoretical and conceptual models that underpin this project and provide a start for scientific research and policy development in this field.
