Regenerative Medicine: three small projects on route for knowledge utilisation

Regenerative medicine is a broad topic, ranging from medical technology, such a microfluidics for organ-on-chip (OoC) and implantable electroceuticals, to “living” therapies such as bioengineered organs and cell and gene therapy. All three projects are aimed at keeping the route community organized, working on knowledge utilization bringing recognized hurdles and knowledge to applicable cases. The current trekker will leave the route, so 1 project will ensure management of the route lead by the routes figurehead. Another project led by human organ and Disease Model Technologies (hDMT) will focus on bringing OoC technology to fruition. hDMT is a pre-competitive national consortium bringing all OoC innovations together. Through this project they aim to establish hDMT INFRA: a unique and first-of-its-kind network of Dutch Centers of Expertise dedicated to making OoC ready for end-user applications. This will contribute to the Dutch Organ-on-Chip progress utilizing established knowledge. Project three will focus on defining possible reimbursement cases for the sustained affordability of Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMP), the official nomenclature regenerative therapies are classified under at the European Medicines Agency. This was defined to be a future hurdle in the last route workshop. By bringing together stakeholders with varying expertise, we can further the route.
